Tables. - A t y p ewriter, supported on a board carried by parallel-motion rods so that it can be swung into or out of a recess in a desk or cabinet, is provided with weightcompensating 'mecbanism, means for automatically holding the typewriter support in its position for use and for releasing it when desired, and means for housing the door of the recess on moving the typewriter into position for use. The typewriter support 2 is carried by the parallel-motion rods 3, 4, Fig. 1, connected by links and levers to the weight-compensating springs 5 and to the door 12, brackets 13 on the door being pivoted to levers 14, which carry abutments 21 to limit the motion of the door. When the typewriter support 2 is moved into position for use, it is automatically arrested by a pivoted sector A, Fig. 3, and supported by a sliding piece D having a pin-and-slot connexion with a pivoted piece E. The weight of the typewriter, or pressure applied to the support 2 depresses the sliding piece D against the action of a spring d<6>, until its hooked end d<5> engages a spring catch F. The sector A is at the same time tilted out of the path of the support 2, so that when it is desired to lower this, it can first be raised above a pivoted disk G and then lowered. A catch 24 on the support 2 acts both in rising and falling, upon a projection g<4> on the disk G provided with pins g<1>, g<2>, against which the pivoted piece E is held by a spring e<5>. The action of the catch 24 on the projection g<4> causes the pins to act on the pivoted piece E so as to withdraw the sliding piece D out of the path of the support 2 and release it from the catch F.
