Abstract
9897. Clift, F. H. July 7. Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A device for indicating the level of liquid in a fuel tank, actuated by the pressure necessary to force air out of a submerged tube and particularly applicable for use on aeroplanes, has two pipes connected to the bottom and the top of the tank respectively, and to a differential pressure gauge and a manually-actuated airpump. The air-pump comprises a cylinder a connected at its forward end with the " pressure " pipe y, and at its rearward end with the " static " pipe z. The pump piston d is connected, with lost motion, to a push-actuated spindle e normally held in a raised position by a spring n. The spindle e is formed with two valve members f, h, the one f being adapted, when the piston is depressed, to engage the seat b and hold the pressure in the pipe y while a reading is being taken, and the other h being adapted to lift from a seat in the piston on the return movement to put the pressure and static pipes in communication to restore the pointer to zero.
