7803. Frauenheim, J. A. May 26. Bolts and studs.-Relates to the construction of bolts or studs particularly adapted for use as boiler stays. A blank of the required length and diameter is heated and then has the part 5 punched out as shown in Fig. 3, after which the slot is closed and the body part reduced in diameter in dies or between rolls. It is then twisted through about 90 degrees and the ends threaded. A blank of sufficient length to form a number of studs may be slotted at intervals and finished as described above, after which it is divided to form separate studs. A blank of the size required for the body of the stud may be slotted without the removal of any material; the heads are then upset and the blank finished as described above.
