Abstract
7137. Barlow, T. P. May 12. [Addition to 916/15.] Openers and cleaners; feeding openers and cleaners.-In a machine for opening and cleaning cotton and cotton waste as described in the parent Specification, a stripping-roller is provided to take the fibre from the lickerin, the inlet of the airsuction trunk being applied to the stripping- roller. The cotton &c. is fed from the lap d by a feed-roller g and feed-plate f to the licker-in h, which acts in conjunction with mote knives i. The stripping-roller j, which is provided with straight or bent teeth in accordance with the class of fibre to be dealt with, takes the fibre from the licker-in and delivers it to the inlet of the air-suction trunk n. The licker-in and stripping-roller are enclosed by a hinged cover m, and the mouth of the air trunk may be arranged to cover more of the surface of the stripping-roller than of the licker-in in the arrangement described in the parent Specification. The trunk n leads to a casing enclosing a rotating pervious cylinder m<1> on which the fibre collects. A semi-cylindrical damper o, hung loosely on the shaft q of the cylinder m<1>, allows a knife u to strip the lap from the cylinder. A fan s is arranged to draw air through the cylinder ml, which is open at one end and rotates in a fixed cap m<4> communicating with the fan. The licker-in is driven by a crossed belt from the main shaft, which also carries the fan. The stripping-roller is driven from the licker-in. Worm gearing, x, x<1> drives the shaft of the feedroller g, and this in turn drives the lap-roll e and the cylinder m<1>.
