Abstract

10,222. Schofield, C. May 3. Openers.-Relates to willowing - machines. The fibre is fed to and discharged from the machine automatically, and the speed of the feedrollers with reference to that of the beater shaft is adjustable. A toothed pinion 28 on the shaft of one of the feed-rolls is driven intermittently by a segmental rack 27 carried by the spur-wheel 25, which is also provided with a cam groove 77 for opening and closing at the proper times the door 12 for the discharge of the cleaned material and a door 55 for the admission of air for the supply of the usual fan 8 at the time when the door 12 is open. The wheel 25 is driven through change gearing from the stud 60, which is driven by a belt from the main shaft 2, the change wheel 63 being fixed in position while the studs 60, 62<a> are adjustable in a curved slot in the frame, so that they may be moved nearer to or further from the axle of the wheel 63 without interfering with the tension of the driving-belt 18. On the outside of the frame, near the exit door 12, is a rotary fan 93 provided with a hood 90, for the purpose of preventing the discharged fibre from rising in the room and for freeing the upper edge of the door 12 from loose fibres, which might have the effect of preventing it from closing properly.
