Abstract
916. Barlow, T. P. Jan. 20. Openers and cleaners; feeding openers and cleaners.-In a machine for cleaning cotton and cotton waste, of the type in which the fibre is fed from a lap to a cardclothed licker - in roll working in conjunction with mote knives as in a carding - engine, the cleaned fibre being drawn off by suction and collected upon a perforated cylinder, the air suction trunk is provided with a restricted inlet situated at a point remote from the mote knives, so as to draw fibres only into the trunk. The lap d is fed between a roll g and a plate f to a licker-in roll h and mote knives i. The trunk k has a narrow opening extending across the licker-in, and the cleaned fibre is drawn up it and is collected on the perforated cylinder m by a fan s. A weighted semicylindrical damper o is mounted loosely on the axis q of the cylinder. One end of the cylinder is closed, and the other end communicates through the pipe r with the fan. The fibre is consolidated upon the cylinder by a roller t and is taken off by a knife u. The licker-in is driven by a crossed belt from the fan shaft v. The lap roll and feed-rolls are driven through worm gearing x, x<1> from the same shaft,
