Abstract

7071. Goadby, K. W. May 11. Tobacco is freed from nicotine by heating the lagged container A electrically to 60-100‹C. and reducing the pressure about 20 in. of mercury against a small admission of warm dry air through the inlet F, the vapours passing through the outlet G to a condenser. The tobacco is afterwards subjected to humid air in a separate chamber, which is warmed and slightly exhausted, to restore water. The temperature and the air admitted are preferably controlled automatically, as by a thermostat J. In a modified container, the tobacco is laid on electrically-heated shelves.
