Abstract
5111. Strachan & Henshaw, and Sargent, T. April 1. Outlets.-A movable shoot is combined with the valve of the discharge opening of a bunker by means which protrude the shoot during or before the opening of the valve and retract it during or after the valve closure in such a manner, for example, as to withdraw it from the path of vertically-moving skips or buckets which come close to the valve to receive their loads. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the curved valve c of the mouth e<1> of the bunker e is pivoted at d and is opened by means of a rod k against the action of counterweights f which normally keep it closed. The shoot a is pivoted on a shaft b carried by the valve, and it is linked at j to points j<1> on the bunkers. When the valve closes, the shaft b by swinging around the pivots d causes the shoot to assume a vertical position, out of the path of moving buckets or the like. In a modified arrangement, the shoot is positively held in its protruded position by a detent and only commences to rise to its protracted position after the valve has closed, the release of the detent being effected by hand or automatically by the valve as it closes. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the bunker has a rack-operated sliding-door c and the shoot is thrust out by the emerging material from the retracted position shown against: the action of counterweights g or springs. It is held in the protruded position by a pawl j which enters a ratchet-wheel h and is raised by a finger l<1> on the door and a rod m to allow the shoot to rise to the position shown when the door is closed. The actuation of the shoot may alternatively be effected by contact with the skips or buckets or a yielding cradle, platform, or. levers upon which they rest. The Provisional Specification states that link-work, levers, gearing bands, cords, or camplates may be used between the valve and shoot in order to obtain a large movement of the latter from a small movement of the former.
