Abstract

4992. Marks, E. C. R., [Willson, T. L.]. March 31. Sights; sighting-accessories.-Relates to hyposcope attachments to rifles for sighting from cover, and consists mainly in mounting the mirrors 23, 26, 28, Fig. 2, in a bent tube having a portion 20 parallel to the barrel and in the line of sight, a laterally-extending portion 21, and a downwardlyextending portion 22. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the upper mirrors 23, 26 are mounted on the outside of the tube over openings therein. The hyposcope is removably attached either to the sight or to the side of the gun. In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the hyposcope is adapted to clip over the sight, to which it is secured by spring catches 14. In a modification, Fig. 11, the hyposcope is clipped over the sight and secured by a strap F, and the lower part 62 of the tuba is telescopic. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the hyposcope is carried by a bracket 30, mounted to slide in a guideway 31 at the side of the gun and provided with a set-screw 32. Cross-wires or an open sight, as shown in Fig. 10, may be provided in the hyposcope tube.
