Abstract

4351. Neville, A. G. March 19. Adjusting steering hand-wheels.-The steering-wheel of a motor-vehicle, motor-boat, aircraft, or the like, is adapted to be moved on the head of the steering-post into an eccentric position and into a plane inclined to the axis of the post, to enable a person to pass it. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, curved diametrical guides 10, 10<a> on the wheel are adapted to slide in guides 5, 8 at the head of the post 2. The distance between the guides 10, 10<a>, may be adjustable, a spring 18 may act as a buffer, and means may be provided for locking the wheel in the central and eccentric positions. The usual levers 25, 26 for controlling the sparking and the throttle of the motor, may be mounted on the steering-post above or below the wheel and held in position by a rack 27.
