Abstract
3988. Morrison, J. W., and Holt, T. W. Sept. 10. Winding-machines; stop-motions.-Relates to winding doubling frames and consists in the particular arrangement and combination of parts forming the complete machine described in the Specification and shown on the drawings. The machine comprises mule spindles, a clutch drive for the bobbins, a horizontal guide wire carried on vertical rods, a cam-actuated copping or building motion, overhead yarn guiding means, and a stop motion which effects a stoppage on the breakage of a single end, together with means for arresting the annular plate supporting the bobbin and consequently the bobbin immediately the stop motion comes into action. The bobbins wound are intended to serve as sources of supply to machines such as that described in Specification 21,220/14. The ends are taken from spindles r and conducted through eyes r<1>, over a thread board r<2>, through the drop wires n of the stop motion, and over flanged guides g to the yarn guides f<1>, which are mounted on a rail f provided with lifting-pokers and raised and lowered by a cam and lever system i, j, the shaft j<1> of which is driven from the tin roller shaft b. The bobbin rests upon a flanged sleeve e which can slide upon the spindle and is connected therewith for driving purposes by reason of a pin e' on the underside of the flange engaging with one or other of a number of apertures in a disk d fast on the spindle. When the stop motion is brought into action on the breakage of a thread, a forked lever q forming part of the stop motion raises the flanged sleeve e out of engagement with the disk d, and a pin e<2> on the underside of the flanged sleeve engages with one of the prongs of the forked lever q, thereby positively stopping the bobbin. The forked lever q is held with its forked end in the depressed position shown in full lines in Fig. 3 by means of a prop p and a swivelling detector bracket m. When an end breaks and a drop wire falls, the detector bracket is swivelled by the wiper o, the prop p ceases to be supported, and the lever q moves so as to stop the bobbin as above described. The parts are re-set by raising the long arm of the lever q.
