Abstract
2547. Wrightson, Sir T., Riley, G. B., Ringquist, J. M., and Head, Wrightson, & Co. Feb. 17. [Cognate Application, 8373/15.] Mines, marine.-Relates to submarine mines fired by a spring striker cocked and released when a ship strikes the mine or a cable connected therewith. According to the invention, the striker is normally restrained from movement by a trigger which is slid out of engagement transversely by means of an incline during the compression of the spring. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the spring striker l h is normally held in place by a transversely sliding trigger o and by a sleeve f and hook s. The hook is depressed by a hydrostatic diaphragm t when a block u dissolves away a given time after the mine is layed. The spring r of the striker is compressed by hydrostatic pressure on a diaphragm e when a ship breaks antennµ at the end of pipes c and water is admitted thereby. The trigger o is then slid transversely by the sleeve f, to release the striker. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the striker h is drawn back to compress its spring r by a pull on a cable B, which first shears a pin D; and the trigger o is then slid transversely by the incline p in the sleeve g to release the striker.
