P e s s a r i e s ; t a m p o n i n t r o d u c e r s and like appliances.-A device for applying medicaments to the cervix uteri comprises a medicinal or medicated body a, Fig. 2, held on a support b mounted on an elastic wire bow or carrier c, the ends e of which are pointed and enter the mucous membrane of the mouth ot the cervix so as to hold the appliance in place. The spread of the arms of the carrier c is limited by a chain f. An instrument for introducing the device comprises a tube k, Fig. 4, provided with a plunger n having a handle m. The end of the tube k is hinged, as shown in Fig. 7, so that the pessary may be placed in position therein, and the hinged portion o is normally held closed by a ring q. The end of the tube k is slotted at t, and a flange r is formed on it to limit its insertion into the cervix. The pessary may be withdrawn by means of an instrument comprising a tube u, Fig. 8, fitted with a plunger w, of which the end is formed into a hook to engage the chain f. Medicants mentioned are a mixture of itrol (silver citrate), aristol (diiodo dithymol), and lygosin-quinine (quinine-di-o-oxydibenzylacetone), and a mixture of nosophen (tetriiodophenolphthaleine), loretin (m iodo-o-oxyquinoline-ana-sulphonic acid), aristol and boric acid.
