Abstract

23,083. Barker, D., and Hoyle, G. H. Nov. 26. Stop-motions. - In a doubling and drawing frame as used in the manufacture of silk or worsted and similar yarns, the slivers pass over a series of guides 20 balanced on a knifeedge on the bar 22 and provided with wings 21A whereby they become locked to the bar 22 when tilted. If a sliver breaks, the correspond, ing guide tilts into the path of a long camprojection 5 on a rotary sleeve 4 and stops the sleeve. The continued rotation of the clutch part 9 by which the sleeve is driven causes a longitudinal movement of the clutch and operates a lever 12 to lift a locking-catch 16 and release the spring-controlled belt-shifting rod 18. As the sliver leaves the condensing-trumpet, a wire feeler rests upon it, and when the sliver fails, this feeler drops and moves a stop into position to block the rotation of a second sleeve. The stoppage of the rotation of this sleeve acts in the manner described above to release the belt-shifting rod 18.
