Abstract
22,702. Bryden, F., and Fellows, J. R. Nov. 18. Funnels.-A funnel for use in filling petrol tanks &c., and constructed so as to prevent waste of liquid owing to leakage or dripping, is provided with an upwardly - extending branch pipe 4 which communicates at its lower end by an aperture 5 with the interior of the funnel 1 and is provided at its upper end with a spiral conical spring 8 serving as a yielding hollow plug to make a tight joint with the exit nozzle of the supply can. A short conical tube 7 projecting from the inner edge of an internal flange 6 at the upper end of the tube 4 forms the innermost convolution of the spring 8 ; or the spring 8 may be independent of the tube 7 and be secured thereto at its inner end. The mouth 1 of the funnel has an internal flange 3 and is preferably elliptical in plan and inclined to the axis of the conical spout 2. Any liquid leaking between the tube 7 and the can is received by a U-shaped gutter 11, which partly surrounds the tube 4 and extension 7 and communicates with the funnel or leads by an extension 12 to or near the lower end of the spout 2. A removable filter, consisting of metal gauze 14 fixed to a conical sleeve 15, is provided in the spout 2.
