(Cl. 141230) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dispenser for liquids comprising a U-shaped pipe, one end of which is inserted into an outer cylinder slidable on the pipe. The said one end terminates in a portion of larger diameter which is provided with radial holes. Downward sliding movement of the cylinder covers and upward sliding movement uncovers these holes. The cylinder is biassed downwardly.
The present invention relates to a dispenser for filling a bottle with a liquid. One object of this invention is to provide a device that can fill a bottle with a desired quantity of a liquid. Another objective of it is to provide a device that can automatically stop the flow of a liquid into a bottle when the bottle is filled with a desired quantity of the liquid. Still another object of it is to provide a device having means for shutting the discharge hole through which the liquid is poured into the bottle. A fourth object is to provide a device comprising discharge means which is adapted to be easily replaced by alternate discharge means of a different size.
One representative embodiment of this invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of the dispenser;
FIGURE 2 is a front view of the invention with a portion of the cylinder tip broken away and the dispenser in closed position; and
FIGURE 3 is a view showing the dispenser in dispensing position, with all except the intake and upper part of the siphon shown in section, the plane of the section being parallel to that of FIG. 2.
This invention relates to a device for dispensing selected quantities of a liquid, which comprises a main pipe 1 having the shape of an inverted U to which the upper end of the discharge pipe 3 is attached by means of a separable coupling 2. The main and discharge pipes form a siphon, one end of which is inserted into an outer cylinder 4 which may be freely moved up and down along said pipe. The lower end of the discharge pipe 3 is connected to a larger-diameter cylindrical member 5 through which the liquid is discharged. The lower end of the cylindrical member 5 is sealed by a bottom plate 7 which has a larger diameter than the member 5 so that its peripheral portion 6 extends outwardly beyond the periphery thereof. The cylindrical member 5 is formed with discharge holes 8 in its cylindrical wall. The top of the outer cylinder 4 is connected to an exhaust pipe 9 which concurrently serves as a funnel-shaped liquid reservoir. A compression spring 11 is inserted between the flange at the top of the discharge pipe 3 and the coupling 2 in the exhaust cylinder 9. The outer cylinder 4 carries near its midpoint a bottle mouthpiece 13 provided with a packing 12 therebeneath. The top of the mouthpiece is fixed to the lower end of a helical spring 14, which is tightly coiled about the outer cylinder 4 above the bottle mouthpiece 13.
In FIG. 3, 15 is a tank, 16 is a metal bracket which is fitted to said tank 15 and which supports the main pipe 1, and 17 is a bottle to be filled.
In the present invention, the inner end of said main pipe 1, filled with a wine or other liquid, is inserted into the same liquid contained in said tank 15, and the lower end of the outer cylinder 4 is inserted into the mouth of the bottle 17. Then if the bottle 17, with its top end pressed against the packing 12 on the underside of the bottle mouthpiece 13, is moved up, the outer cylinder 4 will be lifted, compressing the compression spring 11 and as the result the discharge holes 8 will be uncovered within the bottle 17, thereby permitting the air within the bottle 17 to escape through the outer cylinder 4 and the funnel-shaped exhaust pipe 9, which concurrently serves as a liquid reservoir into the atmosphere and while the liquid in the tank 15 flows successively through the main pipe 1, the discharge pipe 3, the cylindrical piece 5 and the discharge holes 8 into the bottle 17. When the liquid level in the bottle rises until it reaches the lower open end of the outer cylinder 4, the in-flow of the liquid into the bottle 17 is immediately stopped; then, if the mouth of the bottle 17 is moved away from the outer cylinder 4, the outer cylinder 4 will be pressed down by the compression spring 11, thus closing the discharge holes 8, and at the same time the lower end of the outer cylinder 4 will be pressed against the top of the periphery 6 of the bottom plate 7, thus completely cutting otf the liquid in-fiow and thereby finishing the filling of a bottle 17 with a desired quantity of liquid.
According to this invention, the height of liquid level within the bottle 17 is determined by the height of the bottle mouthpiece 13 relative to the cylinder 4. Meanwhile, the presence of the coupling 2 permits the exchange of one discharge pipe 3 and outer cylinder 4 for another of different diameter, depending on the diameter of the bottle to be filled. The bottle mouthpiece 13 can be easily moved up or down by turning it in a direction which tends to uncoil the spring 14 so that it may slide on the cylinder 4. Since the bottle mouthpiece 13 can thus be fixed in any arbitrary position relative to the outer cylinder 4, the outer cylinder 4 can be reliably moved together with the bottle 17, even though the position of the bottle mouthpiece 13 may be adjusted to regulate the liquid level in the bottle 17. Moreover, since the cylindrical member 5 is of larger outer diameter, the clearance between the inner wall of the outer cylinder 4 and the outer wall of the discharge pipe 3 is large, and accordingly the exchange of the exhaused air out of the bottle 17 with a liquid flowing into the bottle 17 takes place smoothly. Further, the liquid reservoir exhaust pipe 9 being funnel shaped prevent the liquid from flowing out of the pipe 9 if the liquid should go up along the outer cylinder 4 to the exhaust pipe 9.
What is claimed is:
1. A dispenser for liquids comprising in combination a siphon terminating in a discharge pipe having a transversely perforated section of larger diameter at one end thereof, means axially closing said one end, an outer cylinder encircling and coaxial with said discharge pipe, said outer cylinder being mounted to move longitudinally of said discharge pipe between a first position in which it covers and closes the perforations in said section of larger diameter and a second position in which it uncovers and opens said perforations, means biassing said outer cylinder toward said first position, a mouthpiece mounted on and encircling said outer cylinder and positioned to engage the end of a bottle into which said one end of said discharge pipe is inserted, and a coil spring tightly encircling said outer cylinder, one end of said spring being fixed to said mouthpiece, so that the position of said mouthpiece on said outer cylinder can be longitudinally adjusted after slightly uncoiling said spring to loosen its grip on said outer cylinder.
2. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1 in which said discharge pipe and cylinder are detachably coupled to the remainder of said siphon.
3. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1 in which said 10 means closing an end of said discharge pipe extends radially outward therefrom to form a stop against which said outer cylinder abuts when in said first position.
