Abstract

21,235. Cremer, P. T. Oct. 20. Seals; envelopes.-Seals are affixed to the front of envelopes, and, after passing through the back of the envelope and the closing-flap, are secured on the outside of the envelope either by deformation or by engagement with a member attached to the closing-flap. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the seal consists of a button 1 secured to the front of the envelope by claws 9 and provided with a stem 3 made up of soft-metal strips crossing each other at the top and adapted to be compressed after passing through the back 6 and the closing-flap 5. The holes in the envelope through which the stem of the seal passes are reinforced by washers 7, and the back of the envelope is made to reach nearly to' the top of the envelope. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, a dished plate 18, slit radially, is attached to the closing-flap 5, and the stem 15 is provided with a head 16 and with projections 17, so that when once passed through the plate 18, it cannot be withdrawn. The seal may be made black for use on mourning envelopes
