Vertical boilers; generating by waste hot gases and gas-engine exhaust. - The boiler consists of outer and inner shells a, b with flanged and dished ends a<1>, a<2> and b<1>, b<2>, and central flues f, j. The inner shell, which forms the gas-chamber c, is fitted with one or more rings of water-tubes d arranged in groups and provided with gills d'. Plain tubes are also fitted to act as baffles and direct the hot gases on to the gills. The upper ends of the shells are connected by flue-tubes g which lead the gases to the smoke-box h and thence to the chimney. Covers o are provided to enable a cleaning- lance to be passed down the tubes g. An adjustably loaded relief door k is fitted to the top of the flue j to prevent a sudden accumulation of pressure when gases from an internalcombustion engine or similar source are used. In a modification, the inner shell is corrugated and is connected with the bottom chamber e by a ring of flue tubes in addition to a central flue. When an economizer is used, the gases flow in the opposite direction, a chimney being connected to the bottom chamber e. The boiler may be heated by waste gases or by the combustion of gases or oil fuel.
