19,379. Mitchell, I. Sept. 3. Clutches, friction.-Relates to pivoted segment clutches operated by toggle-links. Secured to the shaft 1 outside the hub 2' of the pulley 2 is a bar 4 to which are pivoted two or more segments 6 faced with a covering of pressed woven asbestos and hard brass wire. Sliding on the boss 4' of the bar 4 is an operating- sleeve 8 carrying lugs 8<1> connected by adjustable links 9 to the segments 6. When the clutch is engaged, the links 9 lie approximately at right-angles to the shaft.
