Abstract

19,158. Preston, W. R. Aug. 27. Blast apparatus.-In a locomotive blast pipe of the kind comprising a nozzle having a series of radial tapering passages through which the blast is delivered, the passages are so formed that they merge into one another at their lower ends so as to provide a free space of considerable size within the nozzle. Figs. 4 and 5 show one form of nozzle provided with passages a and a central cruciform passage d. The spaces b between the passages a are open to the smokebox. The passages a are formed considerably wider at their outer than at their inner ends. Figs. 2, 3, and 6 show nozzles having modified forms of radial passages a and central circular passages c.
