Boiler heaters, auxiliary.-A heating-device for kitchen-range boilers consists of a gas burner which is placed in the boiler flue or against the front of the boiler and is mounted so that, when in position there, it may be adjusted relatively to the boiler. Fig. 3 shows the lower part of a range boiler A, and beneath it a burner a fitted in a tray b, which carries also a deflector k bearing against the front of the boiler. The tray has, if necessary, perforations in its bottom or sides or both to admit air, and may have a corrugated bottom. The tray is mounted on adjustable legs d at its front, and is supported by eccentrics g fitted on rods h or otherwise at its rear end. The deflector k consists of a fire-brick in a casing j, the upper end of which extends horizontally over the top of the boiler. The brick is spaced from the boiler by projections l. The casing j is preferably secured adjustably to the tray b. The burner is lighted after withdrawing a plate b<1> on a sleeve or the like b<2>, which covers the airinlet holes of the burner. In a modification, the burner is not mounted on the walls of the tray b, but on short transverse strips, and the bottom of the tray is hinged at one end so that it may be dropped to allow air to enter; the fire-brick k simply rests on a ledge above the front end of the tray b. In another modification, the burner is arranged so as to play on the front of the boiler, while the deflector k and its casing k are adjustably supported beneath it. When the heater is in use, a gas-fire may be hung on the grate front bars, or otherwise supported in that position.
