BERTHA R, BURG, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. I I
' GARBAGE-INCINERATOIL To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERTHA R; BURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the countyof San Diego,-
State of, California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage- Incinerators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of :the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains -to make and use the same.
This invention relates to' garbage incinerators.
. The object of the invention resides in the provision of a garbage incinerator which will efliciently consume garbage placed therein in a relatively short period'of time.
A further object of the invention residesin the provision of a garbage incinerator which may be located conveniently for constant use without giving forth offensive odors, and which will be simple in construction'and cheap to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and com- 'bination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garbage incinerator constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section of what is shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig.2; Fig. 4:, a detail perspective view of the cage, and Fig. 5, a partial vertical section showing the smoke pipe telescoped. 7
Referring to the drawing the garbage incinerator is shown as comprising a casing 10 supported upon legs 11. The upper end of the casing 10 is open and adapted to be closed through the medium of a suitable removable cover 12. Mounted in the cas ing 10 above the lower endthereof is a grate 13 beneath which is slidably arranged an ash pan 14. Constructed in the casing 10 between the ash pan 14 andgrate 13 is a door 15 whereby a fire may be lighted upon the grate 13 and aisuitable draft supplied to said fire subsequent to the lighting thereof. .The side walls of the casing 10 have Specification of Letters Patent.

mounted thereon an inwardly directed plate 16. This plate 16 is provided with perforations 17 for a purpose that will presently appear. Supported upon the plate 16 within the casing 10 is a basket 18, shown in this instance as constructed of wiremesh, but it will be obvious that said basket can be constructed of any desirable perforated material. The upper edge of the basket is provided with a laterally directed strengthening frame 19 which is engaged upon the upper side ofthe plate 16 and serves to support the basket 18 in suspension within the casing 10. One of the side walls of the casing 10 is provided with an opening 21 mounted upon this'side wall and communieating with the opening 21 is a telescoping stove pipe 22 which in the collapsed position thereof is adapted to be closed by 'a cap 23.
'In the use of the incinerator fuel is first placed'upon the grate 13 through the open upper end of thevcasing 10. The basket 18 is then'applied as shown in Fig. 2 and the garbage to be burned is placed within the said basket. The pipe 22 isthen extended to the position shown in' Fig. 2 and the cover 12 applied. The fuel upon the grate 13 is then ignited through the door 15. As the fuel burns the heat will rise and pass through the openings 17 with the resultthat the garbage in the basket 18 is'soon dried to a state in which it will' be ignited and burned. Owing to the openings 17 it will be apparent that the draft during the preliminary burning of the garbage is in no wayinterfered with so that an efiicient fire is maintained for reducing garbage to a dry and 'burnable state. It will be further apparent that if the door 15 is left open and the garbage deposited at intervals in the basket 18 a circulation of air w1ll be maintained so as to dry out the garbage previous .to the burning. The device is adapted to also be used as a heater and cooker and to this end there is detachably mounted 1n the casing 10 above the plate 16 a plate 24 provided with a'plurality of openings 25 closed ing having an open upper end, a pyramidal removable cover for closing the upper end of said casing, a grate disposed insaid cas ng, means for. supplying draft to fuel disreceptacle removably suspended in the casand beneath the upper end of the casing and forming a storing space between.the
posedfiupon the grate, a garbage supporting plate and cover, and a smoke pipe leading 10 from the casing between the upper end of the garbage receptacle and said plate.
