Loose - reed motions.- In a loom in which the reed case a<1> is normally held in working position by springs &c., if the shuttle is trapped, a finger h on a shaft d is not raised by the action of a shuttle-box swell on a finger secured to the shaft d, and one arm k of a bell crank lever, pivoted at k<2> on a fixed bracket m, is struck by the finger h as the lay moves forwards, so that the other arm k<1> acts.on an adjustable lever c to rock a shaft b and throw out the reed case a<1>. The shuttle-box flaps may be hinged &c. and normally supported by arms on the shaft b.
