Ball and roller bearings.-In a ball hearing having two or more series of balls, the outer track of one or more rows of balls consists of a ring 5, spherical on both surfaces. This ring is turned obliquely in the outer bearing- ring 4 to enable the balls 3 to be inserted, and when restored to its normal position, it retains the balls in the race on the inner ring 1. The ring 5 may be locked by a flanged sleeve 13, Fig. 6, or by a screw, or by a retaining-ring placed in the outer ring 4. The outer track of the balls 11 may be spherical, or both rows of balls may have spherical rings 5, the centres of which lie in the planes of the edges of the outer ring 4 or outside these planes. A ring of thrust balls 15, Fig. 10, may be combined with various forms of the invention. Roller bearings may be combined with the ball bearings for thrust or radial pressure.
