Chain guards or gear covers for cycles, attached to the frame at three points, comprise a circular front portion a for covering the outer side and greater part of the periphery of the crank-bracket chain-wheel and a chain-protecting part b extending rearwardly from the top of the portion a, an inwardly-directed flange or plate a<3> being disposed on the inner side of the forward upper part of the guard and formed with a curved slot or clearance a' for the adjustable connexion of a clip h engaging with the bottom tube f of the frame. The clip has a pair of headed tightening-screws g, which are adjustable within the slot. The circular portion of the guard carries an inwardly-projecting pin or stud j, which is pivotally connected or linked to an adjustable clip j<1> engaging with the chain stay e, and the chain-protecting part of the guard carries a stud c', which is pivotally connected or linked to a clip c engaging with the rear end of the chain stay or with the back stay k of the machine. The connexions are set to suit the rakes or inclinations of the frame members. The centre of the circular portion of the guard may be formed with a large opening a' to reduce the weight. According to the Provisional Specification, the clip engaging with the bottom tube is pivoted or connected to a headed pin or stud which is adjustable within the slot of the flange or plate.
