Abstract

13,813. Triem, J. June 9, 1913, [Convention date]. Sewing-machines; thread-cutters.-In threadcutting mechanism for sewing-machines of the McKay type, a knife 10 having a cutting-edge 12 enters within the loop of the thread and cuts one of the legs. The knife is mounted in a stationary knife carrier 11 and is slotted to receive an arm 13, which presses the knife outwards when the presser-foot lifting-bar 18 is raised. The arm 13 is hinged to a shaft 14 carrying a second arm 15 engaged by a tripmember 19 carried by an arm 17. The member 19 by engagement with a cam 20 is pressed outwards against the action of a spring 23 at a predetermined position in the upward movement of the bar 18, and the arm 15 is released. The knife is then withdrawn by a spring 22. The carrier 11 has a hinged lower member 25 so that the knife may be readily removed.
