Abstract
115,052. Thompson, W. P., (Union Special Machine Co.). Jan. 15, 1917. Multiple - needle machines; chain - stitching; starting and stopping gear. The loopers 21 are adjustably mounted on a carrier 26 which is movable at right-angles to the normal plane of movement of the loopers along the supporting shaft 35 to bring the loopers into easy threading position. The carrier consists of a slotted bar 29 in which the looper holders are clamped and a bar 33 embraced by a yoke member 36 secured to the shaft so as to communicate the oscillatory movements of the shaft to the carrier. The endways movements of the shaft are imparted to the carrier by a spring latch 57 carried by the yoke member 36. The latch is released to allow sliding movement of the carrier by a bar 65 on a spring-controlled level' 60. The nose of this lever co-acts with a recess in a collar on the main shaft so that it can be moved only when the loopers are in their retracted positions, and, owing to the contact of the bar 65 with the carrier, the machine cannot be started until the loopers are in their normal operative positions.
