' Channels and reservoirs in cylinders, pistons and crank casings.-In an internal-combustion engine having a pair of adjacent cylinders with combustion chambers formed on both sides of annular pistons 27 and in the annular ends 39, 40 of the cylinders, an oil reservoir 31 is secured to the small end of a connecting-rod and lubricates the gudgeon and an annular piston 27. A further supply of lubricant may be conveyed to the hollow gudgeons through passages 86 in the heads of the cylinders and cups 87 on the pistons. To lubricate the upper annular extensions of the pistons, passages therein, not shown, are brought into coincidence, at intervals, with supply passages in the cylinder heads. The lower extensions of the pistons are lubricated with oil from gutters 90. A toothed wheel 13, which actuates pinions on the valve spindles, runs in a bath of oil which overflows into chambers 10, 11 which themselves overnow into a reservoir 14.
