Abstract

13,382. Mawson, R. B., Bryham, W., Ackroyd, A., and Winsborough, W. June 2. Railway-carriage doors and the like, fastening automatically; fastenings operated mechanically from a distance.-The spring-controlled sliding latch 3 is located in the bottom of the door and engages in a socket 6 in the door frame when a plug 8, which is held in the socket by a cam 10 on a draw-bar 11, is allowed to recede, the bar 11 being displaced against springs 14, when the train is in motion, for that purpose. The plugs may be spring or gravity controlled and have rollers 9 on their lower ends. The bars 11, coupled between the carriages, slide over rollers 13 and are connected to the vehicle drawbars; they may be operated by a lever in the guard's van or engine. The springs 14 are arranged between collars 16 on the bars and fixed projections 15. The latches 3 have bevelled ends to allow the doors to be slammed.
