Cleaning externally.-Scale is removed from boiler tubes by means of an implement with cutting-edges which is introduced between the tubes and is then rotated by means of a handle or the like. Fig. II shows one form, consisting of a handle 1 and a cutter 2, the cutter being fixed either directly to the handle 1 or to a kind of ratchet brace upon the handle. The cutter 2 may have any number of cutting- edges; a pin 5 may prevent the cutter from falling out when it is used in a vertical position. The cutter 6, Fig. IV, may be shaped so that it may work in contact with four tubes. as is shown in Fig. VI.
