Vacuum tubes. - A tube containing a rare gas, such as neon, helium, argon, or krypton, is bent into compact form giving good distribution of light, and is rigidly or resiliently connected to a cap d similar to that of an incandescent electric lamp. A starting-device, such as a small induction coil, may be arranged in the cap, to which a ventilated or closed shade or globe may also be attached. Figs. 1 and 4 show two forms of the tube a; in the latter form, two parts of the tube are in parallel. A tube of U-form may have a rod connecting the middle of the bend to the cap, which is above the ends of the limbs. The tube may also be helical, or may consist of an incomplete horizontal ring with electrode pockets beneath it. Specification 14121/00 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) mentions electrodes of potassium or other alkali metal. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
