Abstract

8038. Hart, G. W. April 1, 1913, [Convention date]. Retractive switches.-The switch is composed of stationary contacts in the form of arcs of a circle with inclined sides, and a movable bridging-contact in the form of a cup with yielding sides and obliquely-turned edges for engaging the inclined sides of the fixed contacts. It is particularly designed for operation by the foot in the control of motor-vehicles. The operating-plunger 7, seated over a retracting-spring 10 and a guiding-stem 6, bears on a spring 9, which in turn bears on a guided contact-member 13 composed of two inverted copper cups, one inside the other. The sides of the cups are slotted so as to give a large number of separately yielding contact-points, and the edges are inclined as shown. The cups form a bridging-member for two semicircular base-plate contacts 2, 2<1> with inclined sides. A packed metal casing 1 protects the parts against dust and moisture.
