Abstract

12,127. Accles, J. G. May 19. Levers for operating electric switches, variable-speed gearing, &c. are adapted to move spring plungers C in the same way irrespective of the direction in which the handles F of the levers are moved. Each lever has a hemispherical boss E movable in a like seating in a fixed housing A. The plunger C has a flat end which is pressed against the flat face of the boss E. When the handle F is deflected in any direction from its mean position, the plunger C is moved to the left. In the arrangement of Fig. 1, the effect of such movement is to disconnect a metal cap C<1> from a part H, so as to break an electric circuit. A switch is also described in which movement of the lever makes the circuit. The spring D may or may not restore the handle F to its mean position when released. Fig. 3 shows an adaptation to a cycle hub attachment for operating the change-speed gear. Displacement of the plunger C is magnified and reproduced in a second plunger N.
