Ventilators, terminal. - Windows or ventilators a, particularly those of vehicles, are mounted at each side on pairs of toggle-links c, d so that they may be opened at either side according to the direction of the wind, the links at one side serving as a hinge and at the other side as a stay. The joints of the links c, dare connected together by rods or pivots f which form operating-handles, and the arrangement of the links is such that pivots f lie inside the dead-centre line x-x so that the links serve as fastenings. Guards g prevent the entry of draught above and below the window. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the window a is mounted in a recess i on the outside of the vehicle, rails m being provided to prevent lateral movement of the window, which rests against stops k when opened at both sides as shown in dotted lines. The rails m and stops k may be formed on guards n similar to the guards g, Figs. 2 and 3. To operate a series of windows, the pivot pins connecting the lower links c to the fixed framework are prolonged to form rods o carrying sprocket-wheels p at their lower ends.- Each series of sprocket-wheels on the right and left hand sides respectively of the windows is operated by pairs of rods r, s carrying chains q passing around the sprockets p. The chains and sprocket-wheels may be replaced by cords and pulleys or racks and pinions.
