Operating doors by chain arrangements and movement of interconnected door. - Vertically-sliding doors comprise sections 1, 2, 3, sliding in grooves in the door frame, and connected together by chains &c. 26, 27 attached at the upper ends of the sections 1, 2, passing under pulleys 28 on the sections 2, 3, and attached to the lower end of the section 3 and of a fixed section 4, so that the door is opened by raising the lowest section 1. Any number of sections may be used, In the modification shown io Figs. 4 and 6, the door comprises lower sections 1<a>, 2<a> sliding in grooves 5<a>, 6<a> and connected to an upper section 3<a> in a similar manner to that described with reference to Fig. 2. The upper section 3<a> is mounted in a carrier 29 supported on links 42 and having grooves normally in line with the grooves 5<a>, 6<a>, so that, when the sections 1<a>, 2<a> have been raised into the carrier 29, the carrier and door sections may be swung on the links 42 into the position shown in Fig. 6, runners 46 on the carrier engaging rails 47 on the door frame. The upper end of the carrier is closed by a bar 29<a>. The lower door section is lifted by means of two chains 19 attached to brackets 22 on either side of the section and passing over sprocket-wheels 17, 18, Fig. 2, to a balanceweight 24. The shaft carrying the sprocket-wheels is geared to a shaft 13, Fig. 2, which is driven by means of the handle 9 and endless chain 11.
