Cutting slices in succession. - Band - knife slicing-machines are provided with a special guide for the knife at t h e cutting point and with means for stacking the cut slices. Fig. 3 shows the general arrangement of the machine, and Fig. 4 the knife guide. The endless band-knife is carried on two pulleys 2, 2<a>, the former of which is driven by hand-gearing 3. Studs on the pulleys engage holes on the band to prevent slipping. The meat &c. is placed on a table 9 and pushed by hand transversely to the knife. When the knife commences to cut, the meat contacts with the rail 14 of an horizontal roller-guided spring carriage and pushes this forward to receive the cut slice. The spring retracts the carriage after each cut, so that the rail is level with the cutting-edge of the knife. By this means, the carriage is always at the same point when the cut slice is delivered, the slices thus being piled one on the other. The cutting-edge of the knife 1, Fig. 4, only projects slightly beyond the edges of the guides 5, 5<a>, while the back edge bears against a plate 6 which is slightly thicker than the knife. The distance between the front edges of these guides is adjusted by means of a screw 8.
