Abstract

Window appliances. - Consists of a pulley furnished with means for retarding the descent of the load, and suitable for use as a fireescape. The load may be attached to either of the two ends of the lowering-line and, as soon as the load is removed from one end, the apparatus is ready for lowering another load on the other end of the line. The free descent of the load is hindered by oscillators D, D<1> mounted on pivots in the pulley frame A and furnished with projecting parts c, c<1> which engage with cam-shaped recesses in the opposite faces of the pulley C. The oscillators carry at their lower ends small rollers f, k, and on the frame are mounted similar rollers h, round which the lowering-line is passed in the manner shown in Fig. 1. The effect of the oscillators is to give a check to the movement of the pulley at every eighth or quarter of a revolution, the line being at the same time nipped between the pulley and the rollers k so as to prevent it from slipping.
