Abstract

3691. Close, A. S., and United States Wave Power Co. Feb. 12. Wave energy, utilizing. - A wave motor comprises a float 16 slidably mounted on a pendulum so arranged that both the reciprocatory movement of the float and also the oscillatory movement of the pendulum both to and from its mid-position are utilized to rotate a shaft 4 through the medium of ratchet-wheels. The pendulum, comprising rods 13 suspended from gimbals mounted on a turntable 8, carries at its upper end a beam 25, to the ends of which are attached cables 26 which pass around pulleys 27, 28, the pulleys 27 being arranged to drive the shaft 4 in one direction by means of ratchet clutches. On the rods 13 is guided a float 16 having cables 17, 21 attached thereto. The cord 17 passes up through the gimbals and over a pulley 19 and is weighted at its free end. Similarly, the cable 21 passes around the guidepulley 22, through one of the rods 13, and over the pulley 23, its free end also being weighted. The two pulleys 19, 23 drive the shaft 4 through ratchet clutches. Power is transmitted from the shaft 4 to the shaft 5 through gearing 6.
