Field carriages; recoil apparatus. - Consists in a trail, the front portion a, b of which is triangular, as shown in plan in Fig. 2, and the rear portion of which comprises two legs e, which are adapted to be connected to the transom b by bolts g either in the positions shown in full lines, or, for firing at wide angles of traverse, in the positions shown in dot-and-dash lines. In the outside positions, worm-sectors on the front ends of the legs gear with worms carried at the ends of the transom, so that the legs may be rocked around the bolts g to suit the uneven surface of the ground. Recoil spades and pressure plates c are provided at the rear ends of the legs.
