Abstract

867. Soc. Anon. Ateliers d'Aviation L. BrÚguet. Dec. 15, 1913, [Convention date]. Steering and balancing; propelling.-In an areoplane having a single propeller of large diameter driven at a slow speed through rejucing - gear, auxiliary stabilizing surfaces or sails are arranged at or near to the front or rear edge of the main supporting-planes in the path of the current of air from the propeller, in order to increase their efficiency. In one form, the horizontal planes b<1>, Fig. 1, are arranged between the leading edges of the upper and lower planes and are adjusted about transverse pivots either together or separately. Vertical adjustable planes b<2> are arranged centrally of the machine near the forward edges of the planes. As applied to a monoplane, the adjustable planes b<1>, Fig. 6, are hinged to the rear edge of the main plane c<2>, which may itself be adjusted about the transverse axis j<1> ; in this case, the operating- cords h<1> of the planes b<1> pass over pulleys i<1> coincident with the axis j<1>.
