Abstract

534. Thompson, La M. A. Feb. 21, 1913, [Convention date]. Draw-gear; buffers.-The cars of a pleasure railway are connected by means of a cable and by spring-containing telescopic tubes which act as guides for the cable and also permit relative longitudinal motion between the cars. The cable m, Fig. 1, is secured to one of the crossmembers b of the frame of the first car of a train, and its rear end is secured to a bar n, Fig. 4, which is resiliently connected to the last car of the train. Between adjacent cars are telescoping tubes t, each connected by a ball-and-socket joint s to a car and containing between them a compression spring v. The cable passes through these tubes. A tube 13, forming part of the brake mechanism, also acts as a guide for the cable.
