I YOKE FOR RAILROAD-CAR DRAFT-RIGGING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Application filed July 13, 1916. Serial No. 109,006.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. OCoNiioR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Yokes for Railroad- Car DraftRigging, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in yokes for railroad car draft rigging.
The object of my invention is to provide a yoke having a strong and readily detachable means for connecting the same to a draw-bar.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in vertical longitudinal section, of a draft yoke embodying iny invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1. I Fig. 3 is a front end View of the yoke. 'Fig. 4 is a cross sectional View on line 4e4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the locking block. Fig. 6 is a per spective view of the locking key.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 7 indicates a draw-bar having a butt 8 and the usual shoulders 9, 9 provided thereon. 10 indicates a yoke strap having an upper limb 11 provided at its forward end with the gib 12 to engage-a shoulder upon the draw-bar, a lower limb 13, and a rear connecting .inember. 14. At its forward end,
the lower limb is provided with a trans-- verse groove 15 that receives the lower section of the L-shaped key 16 which passes transversely of the yoke-and extends at its ends through the slots 17 17 provided in the ygke band 18, which is adapted to surround the draw-bar and yoke. l
In the assembled position of the'draw-bar and yoke, a block 19 is employed in effecting draw-bar butt and trated in Fig. l of the drawings, with the upper shoulder 9 of the draw bar in engagement against the gib 12 of the upperyoke limb. The locking block is then placed in its position between the lower face, of the with the gib 20 thereof engaging the lower shoulder 9 of the draw-bar, and the yokeband 18 being in positi0n, the parts are securely locked together by. the insertion of the locking key 16,.which in the ordinary construction of cars is sufliciently low to be ing block engaging another shoulder of the' draw-bar, the other gib of the locking block engaging against the locking key, the key passing through the band and between the locking block and the adjacent yoke limb.
a block having the lower yoke limb,
