335. Krayer, S. S. Jan. 6. Starting and stopping pumps automatically.- Belates to a device for stopping and starting aircompressors automatically in accordance with predetermined maximum and minimum pressures in the air reservoir, of the type in which compressed air is supplied to and exhausted from a piston or other movable abutment, for actuating a clutch, valve, switch, or other controlling-device of the compressor, by the aid of two separate valves controlled bv diaphragms and adapted to open at the desired maximum and minimum reservoir pressures, The invention resides in a particular construction wherein a diaphragm forms the movable abutment and a clutch forms the controlling-device. Pumps A, driven from a sprocket-wheel 1 through a clutch 7, 8, convey air through pipes 4, 5 to a reservoir 6. The reservoir pressure has access through pipes 16, 17 to diaphragms 21, 27 controlling needle valves 22, 26 respectively. At a predetermined maximum reservoir pressure, the valve 22 opens, and air from the reservoir is conveyed through a passage 23 and pipe 15 to raise a diaphragm 14 against the action of a spring 13 and thereby separate the clutch members 7, 8. When the reservoir pressure falls to the predetermined minimum, the valve 26 opens, the compressed air below the diaphragm 14 is exhausted to the atmosphere through a passage 25, and the spring 13 re-engages the clutch members.
