Abstract

Locks, permutation.-The hinged closure of a bottle, jewel-box, tobacco-jar, &c. is secured by permutation mechanism which is operated by the closure itself, the hinge being arranged to allow free rotation of the closure. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the closure 11 is hinged by a link 12 to a ring 13 movably mounted within an annular recess 14 in the body of the bottle. Also mounted within the recess 14 between a shoulder 19 and a fixed ring 20 are revoluble locking-rings 17, 18. The ring 17 has a projection 24, with which a catch 29 on the closure is adapted to engage, and also a lug engaging with a similar lug on the ring 18, so that the two rings can be set by rotating the closure. The rings normally engage the catch 29, and have notches to allow it to be released when the closure has been properly adjusted to set the rings and itself. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the lid is hinged by means of a link 37 to a ring 34 rotating in an annular recess in the interior of the bottle. In a further modification, the hinge ring is provided on the exterior of the body.
