ANTIREFILLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OREST PAPP, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Siedliska, Province of Galicia, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antirefillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to bottles for preventing fraudulent refilling. Devices employed hitherto for this purpose are not perfectly practicable because the bottle can only be opened by destroying a glass cover or the like, which normally covers the clos ing device, which destruction is in certain cases impracticable, troublesome or impossible.
The object of the present invention is to remedy this defect.
The present invention consists in a bottle closing device capable of being locked in which the movement of radial locking bolts or the like is effected by the displacement of a part which acts in conjunction with a locking mechanism in such a manner that the bottle closing device having once been unlocked cannot be locked again, so that illegal or unauthorized opening is at once detected.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a vertical sect-ion of a form of closing device, locked to the bottle. Figs. 2 and 3 show horizontal sections as seen from beneath on the lines VIVI and VIIVII of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on line w-w, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
According to the mode of construction illustrated in the drawings, the unlocking as well as the locking of the device is effected by means of a pin journaled centrally in the stopper; in this case no part is provided which is displaceable in a vertical direction, as in known devices of this kind, thereby introducing considerable simplification. A pin 44 is provided in the stopper 43, which pin is adapted to rotate but not to slide, and is provided at its lower part with two vertical pawl teeth 45 and 46,.

in the stopper. This projection when the device is being unlocked strikes against the end face of the groove, thereby limiting the rotation of the pin. Upon the lower surface of the disk 48 are mounted a pin 50, for insuring the central position being maintained, and an elliptical flange 51, two locking bolts 52 being in engagement with the latter. If the device be rotated in the direction indicated by the arrow the locking bolts come into the position shown in Fig. 3, entering corresponding recesses 53 in the neck of the bottle, and thereby effecting the locking of the stopper. The pawl 47 simultaneously snaps behind the tooth 45, so that the device cannot be unlocked again by rotating the pin in the reverse direction. When it is desired to unlock the stopper, the pin must be rotated further through 90, upon which the pawl will snap behind the second tooth 46, after which the pin cannot be rotated in either direction, being prevented on the one hand by the tooth 46 and on the other hand by the projection 49. Consequently it can be seen immediately if the closing device has been previously unlocked. In order to enable the pin to be easily rotated, the upper surface thereof is provided with recesses 54, into which the ends of a spanner or the like may be placed. The stopper is also preferably provided with an india rubber packing ring 55.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a bottle neck provided with a pair of diametrically opposed recesses, of a stopper mounted in the neck, a pair of bolts seated within said stopper and capable of being transversely shifted to engage in said recesses thereby maintaining the stopper in the bottle neck, a shiftable disk provided with an elliptical shaped flange engaging with said bolts for moving them when the disk is shifted in one direction to engage in said recesses and for withdrawing them from said recesses when the disk is shifted in the opposite direction, a vertically disposed rotatable pin mounted in the stopper and connected to said disk for shifting the latter when the pin is rotated, means for centering the pin with respect to the stopper, said pin provided with a pair of teeth, and means carried by the stopper and engaging with said teeth to prevent back rotation of the pin after the bolts have been withdrawn from the recesses to release the stopper.
2. The combination with a bottle neck provided with a pair of diametrically opposed recesses, of a stopper mounted in the neck, a pair of bolts seated within said stopper and capable of being transversely shifted to engage in said recesses thereby maintaining the stopper in the bottle neck, a shiftable disk provided with an elliptical shaped flange engaging with said bolts for moving them when the disk is shifted in one direction to engage in said recesses and for withdrawing them from said recesses when the disk is shifted in the opposite direction, a
vertically disposed rotatable pin mounted in the stopper and connected to said disk for shifting the latter when the pin is rotated, means for centering the pin with respect to the stopper, and means carried by the st0pper and engaging with the pin to prevent back rotation of the latter after the bolts have been withdrawn from the recesses to release the stopper.
