Abstract

29,333. Altenstein, F., and Brant, N. Dec. 19. Clutches, friction.-In Weston plate friction clutches, the presser-plate 6 is actuated by toggle-levers 13 pivoted to the front plate 11 of the clutch casing 4. The sliding collar 20 is connected tn links 18 which are pivoted both to levers 17, pivoted on the front plate 11, and to spring levers 16 bearing against the jointpins 14 of the toggle-levers 13. As the clutch plates 7, 10 wear, the pressure of the spring levers 16 becomes less, but at the same time the levers 13 fall more nearly into alinement, so as to increase the axial thrust produced by a given radial force. For adjustment, the plate 11 is actuated by an internally and externally threaded ring 12 locked by pins 22, 23. The boss 9 carrying the clutch plates 10 is made square. To compensate for any wear on the clutch plates produced by vibration or rocking of the shaft 8 on its ball bearing 24, the plates are made progressively thicker as they approach the presser-plate 6.
