Abstract

28,301. Bradford, R. D. Dec. 8. Crank-actuated pumps; rods and rod guides.-The plunger 27, Fig. 16, of a liquid fuel pump for an internal-combustion engine is actuated by a crank 20 driven through toothed gearing from a star wheel T<1>, Fig. 1, which is engaged by pins 22 in the interior of a main driving cam A. The pump barrel, which is extended to form a chamber 29 for the reception of air for spraying the fuel, carries a reservoir 32 for storing compressed air for starting the engine. The piston 27 may have a flexible end 40 as shown in Fig. 17. The water pump, Fig. 19, is actuated similarly to the fuel pump, and its piston-rod 46 has a guide 54 which actuates a lubricating pump. The piston of the rod 46 may be constructed as shown in Fig. 20.
