Stitches and seams.-A flat ornamental seam, the upper and lower faces of which are shown in Figs. 1 and 2 respectively, comprises two outer needle - threads c, d, concatenated with a lower thread c, and serving to secure an ornamental thread f, and two inner needlethreads g, h concatenated with a lower thread j. The threads g, h, j maintain the threads e, f in close contact with the fabrics. Sewing-machines; chain-stitching. - A machine for forming the above seam comprises four needles for the needle - threads c, d, g, h. arranged in four vertical needle-bars, the inner pair being set back behind the outer pair. The ornamental thread f is applied by a threadlaying member co-operating with a vibratory spreader as described in Specification 16,124/12.
