106,250. Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Co., and Summers, G. L. Jan. 19, 1917. Seams.-The edges 9, 10, Fig. 1, of two pieces of fabric to be joined are angled or flanged as shown at 9<a>, 10<a> and seaming stitches, 2, 3, formed, for example, by the inner pair of needles of a four-needle machine, pass through these angled portions from the edges 9<b>, 10<b> to the bends 9<c>, 10<c>. The stitching may be of the kind described in Specification 14917/06, employing four needle threads 1, 2, 3, 4, looper threads 5, 6, 7, 8, and a surface thread 4<a>, the loops of the needle threads 1, 4 passing through the fabric a short distance inside the flanged portions. Sewing-machines; presser-feet.-The mechanism for forming a seam as above described may be such as is described in Specifications 6036/12 and 6037/12, the presser-foot 11, Fig. 2, being modified by the provision of a groove 12 on its underside extending from the fork of the toes up to, or beyond, the opening 11<b> for the needles. A plate 13 exerts a spring pressure on the seam after it leaves the needles.
