Abstract

26,822. Shearer, T. Nov. 21. Air, supplying; baffles.-In a boiler furnace, air which has been heated in coiled pipes within the flues is delivered over the fire in the form of inclined sheets through straight perforated pipes which are associated with deflecting- baffles. In the furnace shown in Fig. 1, the air - supply pipes 15 pass through the boiler flues to heating-coils 17, which are connected to pipes 18 having a number of apertures 20 which deliver the air beneath inclined baffles (not shown) to direct the jets of air downwardly and across the furnace. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the heating-coil is not shown, but the air after leaving the coil is led to the front of the furnace and discharged into the main pipe 23 having a control valve 24. The air is then distributed through pipes 25 to the front, back, and sides of the furnace and delivered through horizontal blast - pipes 18 arranged beneath baffles 26 which direct the air downwardly across the fire. In a further modification shown in Fig. 6, the blast delivery pipes 18 are arranged above and below the inclined baffles 26, which direct the air as shown by the arrows. The baffles 26 are shown adjustably mounted in slotted supporting-members 28. The pipes 18 may also be associated with baffles arranged as shown in Fig. 5. The baffles become heated owing to their proximity to the fire and serve to heat further the air delivered against them.
